Titan2D inundation map obtained from the simulation of a short-to-medium-runout block-and-ash flow (SM-BAF) at Merapi Volcano showing the distribution of the maximum flow depths after 120 seconds (see text for explanation). The red outline is the mapped extent of the lobe 5 BAF deposits emplaced in June 2006 (Charbonnier and Gertisser, 2012). The ‘flow coverage match’ is obtained by dividing the intersection area of the mapped and simulated inundation areas by their union area.
