Part of Plot 2 16 days after the start of the experiment. Compaction by raindrop impact is evident as the taut strings, initially flush with the tephra surface, stand proud. Numerous grass shoots have penetrated the tephra surface. The initial thickness of 50 mm has been reduced to 25–30 mm in just 16 days
